Wireless Amber Alerts Put Wireless Devices To Use
Statistics show that the first three hours after a child’s abduction are most critical to recovery efforts. By combining the efforts of the wireless industry with the U.S. Department of Justice, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement agencies, the Wireless AMBER Alerts™ initiative will be a catalyst for the more than 200 million wireless subscribers to aid in the search for and recovery of an abducted child.
AMBER
According to NCMEC, more than 260 children have been recovered since the AMBER Alert program began in 1997. The program-an early warning system to find abducted children-started as a local effort in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, area and became a national initiative in 2003.
AMBER stands for "America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response." The program is a legacy to Amber Hagerman, a 9-year-old girl who was kidnapped while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas, and was later found murdered.
An estimated 70 percent of Americans have wireless phones, and together they can serve as a gps tracking device national network that assists families and the authorities in searching for abducted children. By signing up to receive Wireless AMBER Alerts, subscribers receive information about local Alerts, as well as updates as the search progresses.
Opting In
Subscribers capable of receiving text messages, and whose wireless carrier participates in the Wireless AMBER Alerts initiative, may opt in to receive Alerts by registering at www.wirelessamberalerts.org or their wireless carrier’s Web site.
Users can designate up to five ZIP codes from which they’d like to be alerted in the case of an AMBER Alert activation.
Public Service - Advertising Campaign
The Advertising Council, in partnership with NCMEC, The Wireless Foundation and the U.S Department of Justice, launched a multimedia public service advertising (PSA) campaign designed to raise awareness of Wireless AMBER Alerts and encourage all wireless subscribers to aid in the search for abducted children. It is the first nationwide PSA campaign to address this technology and the ads launched on National Missing Children’s Day (May 25th).
Wireless subscribers can now sign up to receive free AMBER Alerts via text messages.

How Does A GPS Tracker System Work?
If you watch a lot of action-packed movies or TV series these days you must have been awed by how technology can be applied in so many things like crime investigation and tracking. One technology that is often inserted in so many modern movies is the GPS or Global Positioning System.
This is one huge project of the US Department of Defense that is fully functional and indeed very useful. The most common application is the GPS tracker that is now installed in most modern cars.
GPS Technology
A GPS unit is mainly made up of three segments: the satellites, the control systemand the user.
There are over two-dozen satellites stationed just outside the earth’s atmosphere. These machines are about 11,000 nautical miles above the surface and they are funded and controlled by the US Department of Defense. In order to control these satellites, there are control or monitoring stations in several strategic locations across the globe.
These are the units that get the information from the satellites, monitor, and analyze them for any significance in government operations. The user holds the receiver of the radio signals from the orbiting satellites. It can compute its distance from the satellite by using the time stamps on the radio waves that were sent.
To zoom in to a specific location, four satellites are needed. The accuracy is around 10-15 meters so it doesn’t really help if the object being tracked is a car that is about 3 meters long. This is why there have been upgrades like the Differential GPS, which helps give more accurate information on the precise location of a vehicle.
Application In Cars
The GPS tracker technology has found a lot of use in so many things that need to be tracked. The primary application is in vehicles. With the GPS tracking device installed in the car, the owner is certain that he won’t get lost even in places unknown to him. The screen that is hooked on to the GPS system of his car will help him find his way onto the nearest main road leading to his destination - that is, if he got lost.
The best use for the GPS tracking system is in the unfortunate event that the car gets stolen. If you only have the ordinary alarm system installed, you can’t be sure about your car’s total safety. This is because any skilled car thief can easily override your alarm system and get away with your car - and you will never hear from it again.
The GPS tracker system is a genius of a tracker so your thief can’t really go far with your car. The minute you suspect that it’s been stolen, you can just report to the authorities immediately and they can tap into the GPS system so they can instantly check where your car is at that very instant.
The GPS tracker is also useful in many other ways like:

Where To Wear The GPS Child Locator Alarm Device
So I was watching the local news the other day, and it revealed an Amber alert. Apparently a 4 year old child was abducted inside a shopping mall. Police did not know the whereabouts of the child just yet, and they hadn’t a clue who snatched him. This is without a doubt a parent’s most awful nightmare come true. I couldn’t help but wonder where the child was and if the parent was watching him closely. When I’m out in public areas I spot so many nonchalant parents who’re barely keeping an eye on their tiny children.
It irks me to death, but what are you going to do about it? It’s essentially up to the parents and the parents alone to do their job right. It only takes a second for a kid to be abducted.
Now, on the bright side, there are certain measures you can take to ensure this will NOT happen to your child. Ever heard of a gps child locator wrist watch? They’re new on the market and offer a wonderful safety feature.
I’ll bet you’ve seen a few children out in public wearing leashes. This is fairly common now days. It’s a simply yet effective way to keep toddlers at you side in public places.
Sure, they can prance about on their own, but they’re restricted from actually going anywhere. The leash is only a few feet long and ensures that the child stays close by.
It’s much safer than letting your 2 or 3 year old run about on their own. Then there is the baby alarm. This is a simply gadget that attaches to their clothing. You keep the receiver so that you can press the alarm button at any time. This will cause the device on child to sound, and you can pinpoint their location. Pretty nifty indeed.
Now, the new-age child safety devices have been taken to a whole new level with gps child locator watches. This handy device simply straps onto your child like a wrist watch, and then you can proceed to monitor their whereabouts with your personal computer. Now that is sweet! It’s similar to a vehicle tracking device. So basically if your child was abducted, the police could instantly pinpoint the child’s location. This would make retrieval much more likely.
My only question with the gps child locator is where to wear it. Should the child wear it on his/her wrist, like a regular watch? Or, should it be worn under clothing somehow, so that an abductor could not spot it and remove the device? Just some food for thought.

Should You Use a GPS Child Tracking Device for Safety?
Find out how you can keep tracking of your child’s whereabouts with a GPS tracking device or GPS locator watch.
The world we live in is a dangerous place and becoming more so as time goes by. Keeping children secure is a top priority for parents. There are many ways to do this but one way that can be very useful is the child GPS device. These are fairly new but becoming more popular all the time. Are you wondering if you should use a child GPS device for safety? If so, then you should consider the benefits that they have to offer. For one thing, you will have the means to track and locate your child’s whereabouts at any given time.
This can be an extremely useful device when it comes to keeping track of your children. If you have a child that has to walk to and from school you worry about their safety while walking. This device can let you know they have made it to school safely and help you locate them if they do not return on time. Since small children have a tendency of running after anything that catches their eye, they can get away from you fast. In a crowded area it can be hard to find them, but not if you have a child GPS device for safety.
As your child becomes a teenager it gets harder to keep track of them. Many times they would prefer you not know where they are going and who they are hanging out with especially after they begin driving. Many will tell you they are at one place when they are really staying with someone else. If you place a child GPS device for safety in their car, then you will know for sure. It limits the risk that your teen can take, or at the very least provides you a way of knowing that they are putting themselves in danger. Some of these devices can provide you with your child’s heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature. This information can help you know if your child feels comfortable or if they have a sense of fear and discomfort.
Your teenager may not be the only person that feels like these child GPS devices for safety may be a little extravagant. There are a lot of parents that disagree with these devices. They feel like they can trust their child and that everyone should just give them a chance. This may be true for many children, but you have to take into consideration peer pressure and the fact that a teen can get pushed into things that they prefer not to do. If their friends know that you are keeping track of where they go, they want be pressuring them to go places they shouldn’t. Still this is a personal decision that every parent will need to make when they are considering their child’s safety.

GPS TRACKING DEVICES TO PROTECT CHILDREN
The rise in child related crime rates has made it necessary to address the use of devices to prevent child abduction or wandering. GPS tracking devices are designed to help parents to keep track of the child’s location. The devices are configured to solve child related issues.

Parents are probably the most susceptible to worry and anguish. Nothing compares to the heart wrenching experience of discovering that the child is lost or could be in some sort of disturbing situation.
The situation calls for additional assistance from the police or private investigators and involves a lot of investment in terms of time, money and energy.
With the intent to prevent such disturbing situations that could have the most untoward outcomes, a number of dedicated manufacturers have designed GPS tracking devices to protect children.
The importance of the GPS Tracking Device:
The tracking device acts like a child locator. The device could be attached to child’s apparel or worn as an accessory. The mechanism is battery powered and can be as covert as you want it to be.
Many manufacturers are also offering unlimited tracking without the need to sign any contracts. The GPS tracking device comes with a built-in sensor that tracks motion and gives you a clear lead to the location of the child.
The technology is created to offer parents a backup in event of the child being lured by a stranger or simply moving on with the crowd. The lightweight device can be bought in various sizes and can be even attached to the child’s shoelaces!
Recognizing the need to help parents and guardians to keep a track of a child or children’s movements, the manufacturers of the GPS real time tracking systems have engineered the device to alleviate stress and panic by instantly ‘pointing out’ the exact location by emitting loud beeps.
The flash, in the case of an integrated system, and the beeps are ample to help parents to find their missing wards. The devices designed for children are also put to good use to track the victims of disabilities and the elderly.
How does the GPS Tracking Devices to Protect Children Work?
The Global Positioning System is a satellite-based navigation system that is commonly referred to as GPS. The devices that enable access to the technology are integrated within a subscription service that is made up of a network of satellites. The positions in orbit provide access to special satellite signals that are coded. These signals are processed in the ground GPS receiver. The resultant signals point out compute position, time and exact velocity.
The GPS teen navigation is case-sensitive. The moment it is activated, a signal is transmitted to the base unit. This is managed via radio frequency and satellite radio technology. The base unit is attached to the person or carried along by the parent as hand held GPS.
While investing in the gadget, the parents are expected to set a user-defined range. This is the mapped area within which the child would be considered safe. Any movement beyond the base causes an alarm to go off, one that sounds like a series of loud beeps. The beeps are loud enough to be located.
The base unit is the main tracking device and helps the parent to locate the child’s whereabouts immediately. The technology has been designed to avert any disaster like child abuse that may crop up due to unmonitored movement.
Importance of GPS Tracking Devices to Protect Children
The system is very versatile and can be used effectively in the case of children with autism and senior citizens known. It also helps in the case of children who are mentally or physically challenged.
The GPS tracking devices designed to protect children immediately pinpoints idle wandering and any sort of physical incapacitation. The ability to communicate at such times adds to the relief of parents. The child care friendly tracking devices also ensure that the ill or challenged child is able to receive the necessary medical attention in time.
Types of GPS Tracking Devices Available
The manufacturers of the GPS tracking devices designed to enable child safety via tamper-proof bracelets that also allow simultaneous tracking or monitoring of more than two children.
The tracking devices are available in the form of watches, cuff-links, pendants and even tiny shoe and collar attachments. The use of the latest technology ensures timely response to the signal generated.

GPS Tracking Devices - Teens vs Parents, Law Enforcement vs Invasion Of Privacy
GPS tracking devices have many beneficial uses. However, controversy over the covert use of this relatively new technology has ethical scholars, right to privacy advocates, law enforcement, and teens and parents at odds with each other.
GPS tracking children devices have a multitude of uses, the majority of them are mostly beneficial. However, GPS devices sometimes involve privacy issues that can, at times, lead to controversy.
Fleet Vehicles and GPS Tracking Devices
You’ll find that there are many companies both large and small that use GPS tracking devices to follow the location of their vehicles. The majority of trucking companies have the capability to tell you where all of their vehicles are at any given point in time. In a similar manner, taxi companies as well as repair companies have the capability to monitor their trucks location so that they can dispatch them in a more efficient manner.
However, there are people that believe this gives the companies who choose to use GPS tracking devices more information than is needed about their drivers. For instance, trucking companies have the capability to know how much time a trucker has spent on the road, when and for what period of time he stops for sleep or meals and if he has taken any unscheduled side trips.
Dispatchers at these companies may be privy to personal information that is none of their business, such as a driver having lunch each day at the same place, and it is not his residence. Some individuals are of the opinion that this constitutes an invasion of personal privacy.
Teens and GPS Tracking Devices
There are some parents who use GPS tracking devices to know the location of their teens. They may download GPS tracking software technology to the mobile phones of their teens, or they may place a GPS tracking device somewhere in their car. The teenagers may or may not be aware that their parents are monitoring them.
There is likely quite a few teens who believe that this is and invasion of their privacy.
GPS Tracking Devices and Surveillance
Does the thought run through your mind if your spouse having an affair? Curious to find out what your brother-in-law is up to? If you place a hidden GPS tracking device on their vehicle, you will at least know where they are going in their car. You may have to come to your own conclusions as to what they are actually doing there.
There are many people who would agree that this would be an invasion of privacy and quite a few would be offended if they either knew or suspected you were tracking them. Things get a little more involved when police use GPS tracking devices.
GPS tracking devices have been used by police to successfully solve crimes. An example of the conflict between serving justice and invasion of privacy; say the police put a GPS tracking device on the car of a person they suspect of being a murderer. They successfully track the the murderer as he unknowingly leads them to the victims grave. Is this an invasion of privacy? Should law enforcement officials be allowed to use GPS tracking devices this way?
If, for instance, the police need to obtain a search warrant from a judge to use a GPS tracking device, should a private citizen be able to use this technology without a warrant? Should the average private citizen even be allowed to use GPS tracking device technology at all? At times the right to privacy and the right to information are in conflict, this is one of those time.
All technology has moral and ethical implications that we as individuals and society as a whole has to grapple with. The right to privacy is the ethical dilemma we are forced to deal with when we use GPS tracking device technology.
